20 Years Jail for Accused in Minor Girl Sexual Assault Case in Sircilla

RSD_Sircilla: In a POCSO case registered under Thangallapally Police Station, the Sircilla POCSO Court has sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.

The verdict was pronounced by POCSO Court Judge Radhika Jaiswal. The accused, Vijay, a native of Jangaon, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to police, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the then Thangallapally SI Laxma Reddy registered a case and sent the accused to remand. The then DSP Chandrashekhar investigated the case and filed the chargesheet.

During the trial, 18 witnesses were examined. Public Prosecutor K. Jhansi argued on behalf of the prosecution. Considering the evidence and witness statements, the court found the accused guilty and awarded the punishment.

District SP Mahesh B. Githe said that the police department gives top priority to women’s safety. He urged women and girl students to contact police through Dial 100 or Bharosa Centre without any fear if they face harassment.

The SP appreciated the police officers, staff and legal officers who worked diligently to secure conviction in the case.
