RSD- Telangana news: The government has stated that the joint signature of the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch is a crucial security system in the management of Gram Panchayat funds. The approval of both is mandatory for every rupee spent on development works. However, officials are expressing concern that obstructing the check power due to personal and political differences is severely hindering village development. The government has ordered that every decision regarding the utilization of Gram Panchayat funds must be made through a resolution of the Gram Sabha (village assembly). They have suggested prioritizing online payments instead of cash transactions. They clarified that timely recording of expenditure details will prevent any difficulties during audit inspections. They warned that legal protection will only be available to public representatives if transparency is maintained. The government has clarified that using public funds for personal needs, drawing bills before the completion of works, showing false accounts, and forging signatures will be considered serious offenses. It stated that the District Collector has the authority to file criminal cases against those involved in such irregularities, remove them from office, and impose imprisonment. Is the power struggle putting a brake on development? Officials have identified that power struggles between the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch in some villages are hindering development. The government has warned that it will respond sternly if works are deliberately halted due to political reasons by refusing to sign the bills. It clarified that if the investigation reveals that development was obstructed, the Collector has the authority to revoke the check-signing power of the Deputy Sarpanch.
