Measures to mitigate adverse effects of summer heatwaves

RSD-Sircilla news: District Collector Garima Agarwal has directed that systematic measures be implemented to mitigate the adverse effects of summer heatwaves. On 01.04.2026, the Collector accompanied by District Forest Officer Balamani and Additional Collector Gaddam Nagesh conducted a review meeting at the District Integrated Offices Complex. The meeting involved officials from various departments including the Medical & Health, Fire Services, Forest, Labor, and Agriculture departments to discuss the precautions necessary in the context of the summer heatwaves. The Collector, along with the officials, unveiled posters designed by the Medical & Health Department to raise awareness about the precautions to be observed during the summer season. Speaking on the occasion, District Collector Garima Agarwal directed that public awareness campaigns be conducted to educate citizens on the precautions they should take during the summer heatwaves. The Collector stated that adequate stocks of ORS packets must be readily available with everyone, ranging from ASHA workers to district-level officials. She instructed officials to take necessary precautions to ensure that there are no disruptions in the drinking water supply in both rural and urban areas. She further directed that any necessary repairs to water supply infrastructure be carried out in advance. Finally, she issued orders to the respective departmental officials to set up water kiosks (Chalivendralu) at municipal offices, Tahsildar offices, bus stands, and other locations characterized by high public activity. He emphasized the need to educate the public on various summer safety measures, such as drinking water daily, carrying an umbrella when venturing outdoors, and staying indoors during periods of intense heatwaves. He issued directives to set up tents to provide shade, stock up on ORS packets, and ensure the availability of drinking water facilities at employment guarantee work sites and grain procurement centers. He further instructed that stringent measures be implemented to prevent the spread of forest fires in forested areas. The Collector ordered that all necessary steps be taken to protect livestock, ensuring the proper maintenance of water troughs in every village. He specifically directed the officials from the Animal Husbandry Department to pay special attention to the Goshala (cow shelter) at the Vemulawada Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy Temple and to take every precaution to ensure the well-being of the animals housed there.
