RSD- Rangareddy news: The Telangana government has approved the ever-present demands to remove the two-child rule in local bodies. In this order, the two-child rule was lifted in local body elections. Revanth Reddy’s government recently removed the rule that a candidate with three children would be disqualified from contesting elections to local bodies like Gram Panchayat, Mandal and Zilla Parishad. MLC Theenmar Mallanna said that the recently met Telangana cabinet took this decision.

According to the municipal law brought in 2019, the government says that no matter how many children there are, there are no obstacles to contesting the panchayat elections this time. However, the State Election Commission has to give a clear explanation on the matter in which cases the candidates of local bodies will get exemptions. Earlier, the law which provided that candidates contesting for panchayat elections should have a maximum of two children, those who have more children will be disqualified, came into force on 30th  May 1994. Any number of children before that date will be eligible to contest the elections. However, the birth of a third child within one year of this Act i.e. 29th May 1995 has been exempted from disqualification. Only children born after 30th May 1995 will be considered.
