He said that one should be careful about links in the name of offers and discounts on mobile phone, do not respond to messages from unknown people, and do not respond to APK files from new numbers as there is a possibility of mobile being hacked, and that cyber fraudsters are coming out with different methods to trap and flip, and that awareness is the weapons to defeat them. He said that one should be vigilant against strangers on social media, do not fall for the trap of words of strangers and do not give personal information and photos, do not be careless in personal matters under any circumstances, it is mandatory to lock social media accounts properly, and if harassed on social media, the police should respond immediately.
Precautions to be taken to avoid being cheated by cyber fraudsters
● Stay away from loan apps.
● Do not search for customer care numbers on Google at all. Customer care numbers should be obtained only from the official websites of the respective companies.
● Do not respond to video calls from unknown numbers through Facebook and WhatsApp.
● Do not believe messages claiming to be lottery offers.
● Do not believe advertisements provided by unverified apps and websites. Do not be fooled by responding to fraudulent offers given by them.
● Do not invest in easy returns and commission-based sites.
● Do not share details like password, OTP, PIN with anyone under any circumstances.
● Do not respond if someone messages or emails you saying that you have won the lottery.
● Do not respond if a police officer calls you and talks about your Aadhaar, this is a scam.
● If you are told that you are under ‘digital arrest’, do not respond. This is a scam.
● If you are told that drugs have been found in a package for you or sent by you, do not respond. This is a scam.
● If someone calls you and asks you to return their money, saying that they sent money to your UPI ID by mistake, do not respond. This is a scam.
