Poverty reduced significantly after formation of Telangana…(MPI-2023)

RSD- Telangana News: Poverty is the state in which people are not able to get basic necessities like food, shelter and clothing. It is a condition where the minimum standard of living cannot be attained.
Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission KG Balakrishnan said that poverty is the most serious violation of human rights.

According to the National Multidimensional Poverty Index-2023 recently released by the central government organization NITI Aayog, it has been revealed that poverty has reduced significantly after the completion of Telangana state. The statistics released by the central government organization NITI Aayog to the people of communities who participated in the Telangana movement, hoping that the living standards of the people would improve and the sources of income would increase if Telangana state came.

During the period of the movement, the leaders of the movement thought that the state would develop only if Telangana came and the living standards of the people would increase, and today’s Chief Minister KCR formulated plans and implemented them.

According to the statistics released by the then Planning Commission in Andhra Pradesh in 2012-13, poverty was 22.8% in rural areas and 17.7% in urban areas. Before the formation of the state, an average of 21.1% of the state’s population was living in poverty. It is noteworthy that the poverty rate has now decreased to 5.88%.

The poverty rate in Telangana which was 13.18% in 2015-16 has reduced to 5.88% by 2019-21. According to this report, 7.3% of the population (27,61,201 people) in the state has been lifted out of poverty in 5 years.
Compared to 2015-16, poverty in the rural areas of the state has reduced significantly. In 2015-16, 19.51% of the population was in poverty, while by 2019-21, it has decreased to 7.51%. At the same time it decreased from 4.92% to 2.73% in urban areas.

State-wise, the top five states with the most poverty are Bihar (33.75%), Jharkhand (28.81%), Meghalaya (27.79%), Uttar Pradesh (22.93%), Madhya Pradesh (20.63%). It is noteworthy that our Telugu state Andhra Pradesh has 6.06%.

This national multidimensional poverty index takes 12 factors as standard, namely education, health care, infant mortality, children going to school, student attendance, consumption of cooking gas, drinking water, sanitation, electrification, people’s assets and bank accounts.

The main reason for the reduction of poverty in the state is the schemes implemented by the state government. Especially support pensions, Arogyasree, KCR kits, Haritaharam, free electricity, Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, setting up of water grid gurukula, provision of medical facilities, double bedroom houses, distribution of free textbooks, uniforms, thin rice for mid-day meals etc.

These results are proof of the vision and sincerity of Telangana State Chief Minister KCR. He is a great humanitarian who has been striving for better infrastructure for the people from the beginning.

The Multidimensional Poverty Index was created in the year 2010 for a comprehensive study of poverty. (MPI). Since then, this index has been used as a standard measure of poverty in 100 developing countries around the world.
