RSD- Hyderabad news: A two-judge bench headed by Justice BR Gavai took up the hearing on the Kancha Gachibowli land issue on 16.04.2025. On this occasion, Justice BR Gavai questioned whether permissions were taken before cutting down the trees. Responding to this, the lawyer on behalf of the government said that the trees and bushes like Jamail were removed without taking permission. Justice BR Gavai expressed his anger and said that the cutting of trees should be justified. He wanted to know whether the permissions were taken as per the guidelines given by the Supreme Court in 1996. He questioned why there was a rush to cut down trees in three days during the weekend holidays. He said that birds and wild animals were there because of the cutting of trees. He said that he was worried after watching those videos. He clarified that there was no point in compromising on environmental protection. He said that if necessary, he would have to issue orders not to cut down a single tree in 2400 acres. Justice Gavai warned that if they act against the guidelines of the Supreme Court, they would be left alone. He said that they had nothing to do with the mortgage of lands. They were talking about the felling of trees. Justice BR Gavai expressed his anger that if it is claimed that there are no forests in Kancha Gachibowli, then a jail will have to be built in the same area and officials will have to be kept there. He said that it is important whether there is permission before cutting trees or not. He warned that officials including the CS will have to go to jail for cutting trees without permission. If they want to save the CS, they should tell how they will restore the hundred acres. How will the restoration be done? In what time frame? They were ordered to clearly explain how the wildlife will be protected. An interim order was issued to file a plan in this regard within four weeks. The next hearing was adjourned to May 15th 2025. Until then, status quo was imposed.
