Devotees from many parts of the country come to witness this auspicious Kalyana. The Kalyana Ghattam begins with the Mahanyasa Poorkha Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam to the Lord in the morning. The pre-wedding ceremony is a feast for the eyes. A grand pre-wedding ceremony is held amidst Vedic mantras and melatalas. The Kode Mokhi has special significance in the temple here. For the sake of children, they offer Kode Mokhi to Shiva with devotion, wishing that their children study well and become useful. Moreover, it is a tradition for many to get their children’s birth hair removed here. Vemulawada Rajanna Temple has special significance in many ways. The Vemulawada shrine, which houses the Sri Rajarajeswara Swamy temple in the state of Telangana, is located 160 kilometers from the capital Hyderabad and 36 kilometers from Karimnagar. This place has many historical features. This place, which is also known as Bhaskara Kshetra and Harihara Kshetra, is mentioned in the Rajeshwara Khandam of the Bhavishyottara Purana. Narendra, the great-grandson of Arjuna, reached here after wandering around various places to get rid of the sin of killing a sage. Narendra, who was bathing in the Dharmagundam here, saw a Shiva lingam in the pool. When Narendra installed it there and worshipped it, Shiva appeared and freed him from the sin of killing a sage. It is known from the Sthalapuranam that the Shiva lingam is the one that is now in existence. The Vemulawada Rajarajeswara Swamy Temple was built by the Western Chalukyas. To the north of the temple is a stream called Dharmagundam. The stream flowing adjacent to the village is the source of water for this stream. The temple is beautifully decorated here on the occasion of the marriage of Shiva and Parvathi. The temple is brightly lit with electric lamps. Special facilities are arranged for the devotees who come in large numbers on this occasion. Many cultural programs are organized. Special bus facilities are provided. Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy, who is enshrined here, is fondly called Rajanna by the devotees. On the right side of the main temple, there are idols of Sri Raja Rajeswari Devi and on the left side, there are idols of Sri Lakshmi and Siddhi Vinayaka. Three mandapams have been built on the Dharmagundam stream. The idol of Shiva is installed on the middle one. There are five Shivalingas around the idol of Shiva in the meditation posture. Another special feature of the place is the lighting of the sacred Ganda Deepam by the devotees. It is said that the sun worshipped Lord Rajarajeshwara here. That is why this place is called Bhaskara Kshetra. It is said that Sri Sita Rama and Lakshmana visited this place and worshipped it while they were in the forest. The Sthalapuranam says that the Pancha Pandavas also came here and served the Lord and were blessed by His grace. Women who are suffering from illnesses and other difficulties pray to the Lord to get rid of them, and after they are cured, they make a begging profession for the rest of their lives and dedicate themselves to Lord Shiva as Parvati. Another special feature of this place is that there are thousands of such people in this area.
