Accused arrested for blackmailing and extortion

RSD-Vemulawada news: On April 3rd, 2026, a man named Godisela Mahesh (a resident of Chandrampeta) approached a supermarket owner in Vemulawada, posing as a journalist. He threatened the victim, stating that he would arrange for official inspections of the supermarket and publish adverse reports in the press, thereby demanding money. Brandishing a knife and issuing threats to the victim’s life, he extorted a total sum of Rs. 42,000 from the victim via PhonePe. Subsequently, he continued to make repeated phone calls, issuing further threats and demanding additional money. Based on a complaint filed by the victim regarding this matter, a case was registered at the Vemulawada Town Police Station. As part of the investigation, SI Rammohan and Constable Gopal arrested the accused, Mahesh, on 12.04.2026 have seized relevant evidence from his possession. Subsequently, the accused was produced before the Honorable Court and, in accordance with the court’s orders, was remanded to judicial custody. Speaking on this occasion, CI B. Veera Prasad urged anyone else who may have been similarly threatened and extorted by the accused Mahesh, to come forward and file a complaint at their respective police station. Furthermore, it was stated that legal action would be taken against individuals who engage in intimidation tactics by invoking the names of government officials or by posing as press reporters. The public is urged to immediately inform the police if anyone attempt to threaten them in this manner.
