Constructed projects failure in Telangana

RSD –Telangana news: The quality defects of many projects ambitiously built by the BRS government are coming out one by one. While the Lakshmi barrage constructed at Medigadda on the Godavari river as part of the Kaleswaram project has been controversial, the quality defects of the string bridge constructed in Karimnagar seems to have also been affected.

In December 2017, the government started the construction of a cable-stayed bridge over the Maneru river in the suburbs of Karimnagar town at an estimated cost of Rs.181 crore. The then Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao laid the foundation stone. It took about five years to build the bridge. Due to the delay in the construction time, the estimated cost also increased. The construction cost of the bridge was completed at Rs. 224 crores. Minister KTR inaugurated the Karimnagar cable-stayed bridge in June 2023.

Within a month of the construction of the bridge, quality defects were discovered. Cracks were seen in the side wall of the bridge and the asphalt was lifted. As the matter came out, temporary repairs were made. Within four months of the bridge’s opening, the asphalt was completely gone. Traveling on the Karimnagar cable-stayed bridge has become a serious hazard. The city traffic police have put up danger warning boards as the asphalt has lifted.

The cable-stayed bridge constructed at Karimnagar became the largest cable-stayed bridge in South India. The Telangana government has constructed two cable-stayed bridges, one over Durgam pond in Hyderabad and the second one in Karimnagar. While it was thought that tourism would get a new boost with the cable bridge built in Karimnagar, the government was in trouble due to quality defects at the time of the election.
