People should be vigilant about cyber crimes- District SP Akhil Mahajan

SP said that cyber criminals are committing cyber crimes based on two factors, hope and fear. A call to 1930 immediately after any cybercrime incident can help you recover your lost money.

Some of the cyber crimes that took place during this week in Rajannasircilla district

● A cyber fraudster called the victim under Sircilla Town Police Station limits saying he got a gift coupon for shopping on the Ajio app. They said to add Rs.5000/- dresses in the Jio app and put a screenshot. The victim did the same and paid the money to the suspect’s account for the items added in the cart. The fraudster believes that if you want to claim the gift, pay some amount again and you will get a refund. In this way the victim was cheated of Rs.20,000/-.

●The victim received a call from an unknown number claiming to be a Bajaj executive in Sircilla town. You have been sanctioned a loan and you have to pay some amount and the victim has paid. He asked for some more money for the processing fee. Next the cyber fraudster asked to pay some more amount. In this way the victim was cheated of Rs.11,300/-.

● In Vemulawada town, the victim searched the DTDC courier customer number on Google and called. The cyber criminal sent a link to update the address. As soon as the victim opened the link and updated the address, he received an OTP. Rs.25000/- was lost in the victim’s account when he told that OTP to the cyber criminal.

●Victim called A One Billa Cement toll free number in Veernapalli police station area. It’s a cyber scammer’s number. Rs.2,65,000/- + Rs.95,400/- totaling Rs.3,60,400/- was deposited in the cyber criminal’s account by the victim after hearing the deceptive words of the cyber criminal.

●The victim received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number in Sircilla town that said, “Online work from home”. Later they added to the Telegram group and were given tasks to like and share videos on YouTube. Each task was increased. Thus the victim was cheated of Rs.1,33,200/-.

Precautions to be taken:-

• Have you received a call or a message saying that you have got a lottery or loan? Immediately call 1930 and complain.

• Do not pick up video calls from strangers, if you do, they will be naked, record your video call, threaten you and extort money.

• Don’t believe social media ads like WhatsApp and Telegram that claim investment of thousands and profits of lakhs.

• If you deposit less money, you will get profit and if you deposit more money, you will cheat. Call 1930 immediately if you fall victim to such cyber fraud.

• Realize that they are cyber fraudsters who message you and ask you for a job.
